Need help. 96 Jimmy can't shift into park

I have a 96 Jimmy that can't shift into park. I try to shift it into park but when I push the jimmy from the outside, there is a clicking sound and it will still move and won't start back up unless I put it in neutral. Right now, I have the emergency brakes on and turn it off on neutral. What's the problem?

soundsl like an adjustment on your transmission linkage from your shifter to your tranny. my dads suburban had a similar problem after an accident.
