I know, i know, it's like in reverse, right?? I have a 2000 gtp with 125k that has a rod knocking, motor is completely shot. I have found a l36 out of a monte carlo, and am wondering if it is feasible or easy to do this swap from supercharged to non. Any help would be appreciated. I have found someone to do this swap for me if it is possible. I need to know what kinds of complications i would be looking at. Thanx in advance

well..in order to do so you are going to probably need the whole wiring harness out of the Monte.

i think your best bet is to take the bottom end of the motor from the monte and do a top swap on the L36 with the top end of your L67...then you still have your "GTP" :)

The L36 has a higher compression ratio than the L67 so if you do what Jerad (grandprixgtx00) said, even though is probably going to be your best bet, You'll have to be carefull what size pulley you run. I think even with a stock 3.8 pulley on the L36 bottom end you will need some colder plugs, colder stat, and at the very least a u-bend delete. Without supporting mods, you'll end up right back where you started. (bad block)

What size pulley are you running on the "sleeper se" Jerad?

Do you have any supporting mods?

just got the stock pulley on there. i have 180* T-stat, Ubend delete, ZZP 1.0 PCM, throttle body spacer, and SLP fender CAI. ran my dads Matco Tech II scanner on there and it said 0 KR, so guess I'm doing alright.

thinking about some colder plugs and headers, then maybe a 3.4...but like i told you when we talked earlier I'm thinking about selling the "super SE" and building up the GT. thinking i see a turbo in the near future :uhoh:

So, an L36 from a Monte will bolt in w/ no issues, if I do a top swap between the motors? I have a u bend delete, and I am running a stock pulley.... no transmission issues??? Sorry, I'm a newbie....:screwy:

yeah, they are both W body's so the motor will bolt up just fine. the stock 3.8" pulley will work just fine with a L36 bottom. if your friend that is doing the swap for you has a Tech II scanner, have him hook it up after to scan for KR (Knock Retard)

as far as the tranny, you also should not have any issues. the only difference between a 4T65E (L36 tranny) and 4T65E-HD (L67 tranny) is the axels, and 4th gear shaft. the HD is just a little more "tough" than the non HD.

I dont think the 4t65e-hd has a hardened 4th clutch shaft. Jerad, I think your thinking about the hardened final drive (differential portion of the trans).
