hello
So i rebuilt my 3.1L with high compression piston during the summer.
i no problems driving it until it pissed down rain one day then after that
it stop working properly. It would get above op temp then die on me
then would start up after a hour or so any body have any ideas?
I ended up cracking the lower intake manifold, got new one w/ new gasket
I ve changed coolant sensor/ knock sensor/ crank sensor/ ignition module/ idle control/iac sensor/
clean the fuck out of the egr/ check the compression(its fine)/ fuel filter/ fuel pump works/ no vacuum leaks
The only thing i didnt change in the rebuild was the timing chain and
i know i still need a chip for the rebuild (im sure thats a big part on why,but it ran fine before the rain)
after changing all that it starts for a second then dies.
anybody have any ideas?
thanks

Just to be sure I'm understanding this right... it would die and start after sitting for an hour and run, after replacing all those parts it starts and dies? If so, I'd say you got a bad part. It happens, especially with cheap parts, that's a big part of why swapping parts is not a substitute for diagnosing. Put the old parts back in and see if it will start then. If I got that wrong, and it started and died all along, check and see whether you lose spark or fuel pressure/injector pulse when it dies.

As for the original problem of overheating after it was raining, I'd say you probably got water in the cooling fan (probably had damaged coating on the windings) and it shorted out.

You won't always get a code when you have a problem with some of those parts. Problem is sometimes if something causes the vehicle to cut off suddenly the computer don't pick up on what the problem was in time. Or trying to start the vehicle it don't pick up on what's causing it not to start, it usually takes a minute after the vehicle is running for the computer to pick up on everything. I may have some of that wrong but that is what I get from my experience.
