Hi all

Recently got my hands on some ST27 decals approx. half price & would like some direction on colours for the following:

* Saby's R5 Monte 81 (I don't think the yellow will pose an issue but am curious about the red)
* Saby's R5 Corsica 83 (looking through Rally Cars, the red seems to have more of an orange tint & brighter)
* Almeras Bros "ESSO" 911SC Corsica 80 (all the help I can get + suggestions for possible kit(s) either oob or as a donor to cut'n'shut with another kit)

TIA chaps

BUMP!

Come on guys. Is there nobody outside of the 50-odd people who've stopped by for a squiz, who knows what colours these cars were painted?

Saby's 81 MonteCarlo 5 Turbo is the calberson livery and colors, so the yellow should be in fact more orange than yellow (I mean it's not a light yellow but something closer to camel yellow, just look at calberson usual colors) the red can be close to TS-8.

Saby's 83 Corsica 5 Turbo is the Philips livery and colors, so you can refer to Zero paints as those supplied in the Maxi 5 Turbo by Scuderia Italia Lab. Red is really red (not yellow as it seems to be on Studio27 building instructions plan) and is something between TS-49 and TS-8 (don't know the exact reference) and blue could be TS-44 or something close...

I'll try to find the correct references of all these paints in 1/43 kits.

Paints for ESSO Porsche is red TS-49 and blue TS-44.
the Porsche model is "911 SC", but I couldn't swear which kit is the best to be used as donor as I don't know any model having either its duck tail or its special front bumper...
But Esci did the model many years ago with all this caracteristics...

Thanks Phil. I saw a kit of the Esci 911 on eBay a little while ago. It looked to have the correct front bumper but it had the 'whale-tail' engine cover. I have also seen the Fujimi kit of Mikkola's Safari 911 which looks to have the correct duckbill spoiler, but of sourse the wrong front bumper.
Thanks for the colour call outs. Looking at the decal sheet again, I noticed a little Bozian decal. Would the colours indeed be the same as for Rovanperra's 206WRC?

I know there were several versions of the Esso livery, first model (MC79) used the whale tail of the 930 so maybe the 80 car is still this tail, not yet the duck tail, I should verify...

Definitely not, 2002 Bozian colors were in fact the same than Renault Megane Maxi DIAC blue, but former colors such as Philips cars have nothing to deal with, because they were the sponsors colors (same blue for all Philips cars, no matter who the team was) and not Bozian colors (which was only the engineer team making the car race).

I would like to be more precise about the renault 5 colors but I would have to check in my buildings instructions, especially in 1/43 kits to see if I have something because there are many interpretation of such colors from a brand to another and one reference isn't inevitably THE right one...
But I think what I put above could allow you to make the right choice.

Will post again if I can find back more usefull references.

This definitely proves the duckbill spoiler is correct for the '80 car. Now to find some kits...

Mmm yes of course you're right, I had to be tired :runaround::loser: when answering because I didn't realize we were talking about 80 TDC winner !
and of course that car has the duck tail. I have the 1/43 racing43 kit, I will see in building instructions which colors are advised but I painted mine with TS-44 and TS-49 and it looks fine.

So now I'm affraid you'll have to mix several kits to get the correct one, or maybe scratch some parts...

 Yeah buying multiple kits to make just one thrills me a whole lot. Although I did see a 1/12 Jagermeister 934RSR on eBay yesterday which seemed to have the correct front air dam &, I think, the correct rear spoiler. Now if I can find one of those in 1/24, we might be in business

Maybe that would be the correct solution but pay attention that 934 RSR are track cars and have specifications in relation with it (larger rear ? fuel filling cap in the front etc...)
but anyway good luck in your search

Here's another one guys. Putting the above decal sheets away, I forgot I had a set of ST27's decals for Saby's '81 Corsica R5 in Gitanes Blue with light blue trim. So the question is (a bit like asking what is Gauloises Blue), what would be close-enough matches for these body colours? ST27 say 'metallic blue' for the main body. Now this could be Tamiya's standard metallic blue, Racing Blue (as per their Focus RS), Mica Blue...

p.s. a google search of anything using the word Gitanes & Blue gave me virtually zip to do with motorsport & a whole lot of rubbish to do with the sponsor's product

The Gitanes blue used on Saby's 5 Turbo in 80 Corsica (not 81) is the deep blue metallic matching some Gitanes cars like Alpine A310 but it's not the (purplish) TS-51 which was used on the blue focus and is "Telefonica blue".
I don't know the correct RAL reference or something like that.
I'm also interested in getting a good reliable reference for this Gitanes deep blue.
(I know it has been made by Jemmpy so his painter should have the reference... but is it the good one, not sure as I don't have the kit because some Alpine colors are still mystery and even PMA did a mistake when advicing a Mouton's car color...)

Maybe several dark deep coats of mica blue could work but I wouldn't swear it's a good idea, there must be a color somewhere in car center or so which is the good matching one.
