Plug Wire Problem

Ok...this is going to sound really stupid :screwy:...I've been shade-tree-ing it for many years now and never came across this problem until now on my 2005 GP...

I can't get the dang plug wires off the plugs...yanking...twisting...grabbing and yanking with plug-wire-pliers...and that's just with the ones up front :bananasmi

They have a metal tube around them close to the plug that doesn't seem to be hindering but they wont come off...

Any suggestions other than pull/yank/twist harder? It can't be this difficult and I know once I do one it will be "why didn't I think of that sooner before I broke the other 20 things I have to replace now!"

Thanks,
Tom

The metal tube is the heat shield and is not the problem as you stated. The dielectric grease has dried up. Try putting a small straight screw driver under the boot too see you can get it loose. The rear bank is going to be even worse to get the plug wires off. When putting the new wires on remember to put the heat shields back on.

thanks...I found I had to twist to loosen up internal connection then yank from side to side harder.

It took me over 3 hrs to get the rear bank of wires off. I broke off the ceramic top of the spark plug. But that made it easier to get the plug out.

They are a pain, and I dont think them heat shields help any in boot removal. Make sure to use plenty of dielectric grease.

I regreased the back bank of the spark plug wires.
