'01 VATS key

I have the VATS system and bought a Buick key with the same resistance value as the ignition key I have. I am assuming that all I have to do is cut the key same as the existing. Is that all I need to do to have a spare key? I'm assuming the new key doesn't have to be programmed since the resistance values are identical.
