coolant gauge not working

can anyone help me? i have got a ford escort mark6 1.6 zetec 1995 and the temperture gauge does not work at all. i have try to look at it and i have replaced the coolant temperture sensor on the thermostat housing, i started the engine up and engine warms up but gauge not working still, the car does not overheat and the fans cut in. so anyone got any ideas>? i am stuck now. i checked the fuse and thats ok.

Use a copper wire and ground the block to the wire for the sending unit. It should be a single wire. The gage should peg if it doesn't ohm the wire from the sending unit to the gage. It could be a bad gage or wire.

Also, there are two sensors. Be sure you changed the correct one. THe one with just a single wire going to it connects to the gauge.
The other one right next to is connected to the computer.
The other one right next to is connected to the computer.

ok try it and the gauge is not moving at all. have u got any more ideas? i have changed both of them and still not working now. i need some help? i dont know what to check next?

Its time to take the instrument cluster out and check the gauge itself. Its 3 contacts need to have 12 volts on one (when ignition is on), one is grounded, the third one connects to the gauge. From the dashboard end of the wiring harness it would show a resistance reading of something like 1000 ohms to -400 ohms, if the engine is cold. (I think, anyway).

I meant to say check the connections from the circuit board to the gauge.
