'92 PA oil pressure problem

Hey everyone,

About 2 months ago my oil pressure gauge started bouncing around. It won't usually start jumping from 40 psi too 120 too off the gauge (and everywhere inbetween) after the engines heated up to about 200 degrees. It also seems to do it when its moist or if its been in direct sunlight and its warm out. Since it doesn't jump when the engines cool I'm guessing its a bad sensor and not a plugged oil relief valve. I believe I have found the sensor but wanted to confirm its location and a few other details.

- Is it located about 2 inchs in from the oil filter? Is it what appears to be a cylinder with the standard sensor plug on the rear? I've compared what I believe is the sensor to photos of the part online and I think its the bugger.

- Should I change the part when Ive drained the oil or can I swap it out while the engine is lubbed? Also, is there anything I should know before hand about removing it? It looks like it screws in and out so I don't see any potential problems.

- What sensor do I need? Theres 2 to choose from, one that says its "with guages" and one thats "OE style, for lights". Their part numbers at autozone are S4078 for guage and S4116P for the lights. I can't determine what one I need?

Usually, the orifice in the sensor becomes blocked with debris, you are correct in thinking you should change the sensor. Nothing special here, just remove the right front tire & inner splash shield for easy access. Oil will drain oil out when you remove the sensor, so have a pan underneath. Unscrew the sensor and install the new one. If you have an oil pressure gage as you said, you need to get the sensor for the gage. BTW, you have identified the correct location of the sensor.
