I currently have had a 89 S15 Jimmy with the 4.3L and 4WD vehicle for a while now. The vehicle wouldn't start one day.It ended up being the wires inside the distributer were all frayed. So i replaced the whole unit with rotor and cap. But than forgot to mark the old one before i yanked it out. So I had to go and time the truck back in. I used a timing light and put it at about 7 degrees as It sounded great there. Than I plugged the tan with a black line back in under the passanger side, once the vehicle warms up, it dies repeatidly at lights and also seems like it has no high end power. I even played with the timing and tried to advance it and retard which both ways seemed not work. Wondering why it wouldn't seem to time up perfect? Also if the computer wire isn't plugged in. It doesn't die at lights, but still lacks high end power? Any one got any suggestions? Any help would be appreciated as this is so annoying

What timing does the timing light show with wire plugged up?
Ant codes or check engine lights?

Shows 8 degrees with the light. goes from 0 to 12 degrees, right to left. Also there are no codes or anything with the tan & black line wire plugged in. If its unplugged, oviously the engine light pops on. Don't understand why the car would die right away in gear when the things plugged in and can't control it, but off its fine.

Does timing change with bypass unpluged.
After base time with wire unpluged and after you plug wire back up and clear codes does pcm control base timing?
Or what does the timing do with wire pluge back up?

the plug is a computer control pcm oviously as when it plugs in, and the car is warmed up, thats when the car dies constantly stopped or with high end speed. But if its unplugged the car never dies when at a light. But still has some issues at high end power. I believe it changes the timing, but i can't get a timing light on it without it dieing off. So not positive. If it gets gas while the plug is in, it does stay running with a touch of the gas pedal.

Their is a specific procedure to set the timing on these vehicles. Consult a Haynes or Chilton's manual and set the timing.
