'96 Park Avenue - What is this?

Ok, so I am looking under the Park Avenue, to see how tough it would be to replace the fuel filter.

I noticed a motor of some sort, right behind the passenger side rear wheel, which appears to be a vaccuum motor. It has a couple of hoses connected to it, which are pretty well dry-rotted, and one has broken off.

I would appreciate it if someone could tell me what this motor is, and what it opperates. I can replace the hoses, but it would be good to know what the motor does.

It's probably your charcoal canister, I know on some buicks it's up front in the engine compartment and on others its in the back near the tank.

The motor you found, would be the air compressor for the rear struts, it is designed to keep the air bladders inflated and the rear of the car level with the front. The charcoal canister is located under the air intake box on 1996 PA's.

Yeah that sounds correct, I double checked my manual the canisters aren't in the rear of the vehicles until 2001 I just assumed where he said it had vacuum hoses that that was what he was talking about. Thanks for the correction on that.

Ok, so that makes sense, and I should get some new hoses for it.

BobYes, if the existing lines are dry-rotted, your struts are probably leaking air and the compressor is trying to compensate by running more than it should. :uhoh:
