Bad Torque converter??

I have a 99 jeep grand cherokee, I bought it with a bad motor. I swapped a motor in from a junk yard and it runs good but I'm getting a bad vibration. When idleing in park it's smooth but when put into drive it starts shaking and vibrating and sometime stalls. When driving it seems fine up until it shifts into 4th gear and the converter locks, between 1500 and 2000 RPM it starts to vibrate only under a load though. If I let off the pedal it stops shaking. I can touch the brake and unlock the converter and the vibration seems to go away. Can a bad torque converter cause this? The jeep sat for 6 to 8 months before I bought and fixed it. Can a torque converter go bad sitting for a long time not being used??

To answer your question, I don't know of a torque converter going bad over time. I'd consider a sensor as a possibility. But I'd also suspect the fluid first though....did you do a fluid change when you got the vehicle?

What kind of vibration are you getting....is it rapid or slow? Thumping or chirping? Where do you feel it?

It could potentially be a miss in the engine....hopefully you replaced the spark plugs when you got the new motor.

What engine do you have, and how many miles on the vehicle you got it from? How many miles on the vehicle you bought?
