I have a 1984 Cutlass Supreme Brougham with a 3.8 in it. I tore it down to replace the timing chain, but ran into a problem when I tried to put it back in time. The book I have says align the cam shaft dot at 6 and the crank shaft at 12. It also says to align hole in cam shaft pulley with the pin in the cam shaft but there is not a pin. It has the eccentric for the fuel pump and the gear for the distributor on front. Cam shaft pulley can be put on 2 ways one I know will be 180 degrees out.
I pulled number 1 and put the piston tdc, dot on crank is at 12,but I don't know how to make sure my cam shaft is correct. I pulled the valve cover and turned the cam untill both valves #1 seem to be closed number 3 cylinder is starting to open its valves. any help would be greatly appreciated.

I guess I am dumb and tired. I tried the cam pulley but forgot to put the bolts in. Found out it will only go on one way with bolt in it. 2 bolt system.
