Poor gas mileage, strong gas smell on startup

Hello,
I have a 2005 Santa Fe AWD 2.7L V6. Lately I have noticed that when i start up my SUV in the morning i get a strong gas smell outside the vehicle. Also I am getting some bad mileage about 11.21US mi/gallon which is about 13.46CDN mi/gallon in the city. Any idea's what might be going on?
