Hello everyone, i'm having problems in determining an electrical problem with my 98GTP. I also am asking ones fimiliar with the electrical so no wild guesses please. Well my problem is that my headlights don't work, these involve the instrument panel, climate control, radio lights. They sometimes turn back on but in need assistance from ones knowledgeable with the electrical system. Also, the parts (instrument panel. climate control, radio) are operational it's just the lights aren't working. The display in the climate control works until the headlight switch is turned on, and return if i switch it back to the off position. everything else works except for those mentioned. And another question might be if the daylight automatic off/on sensor could be the culprit. And what happens if i disconnect the sensor. I've diconnected the DRL from the module, but it has nothing to do with it because i've had that headlight problem prior to disconnecting it. The instrument lights stay off until it clicks back on, but like i said the climate control display turns off when the headlight switch is in the on position, and vice versa. If someone knows and has a definite guess, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the input.:)

I think I might have missed it, but the DRL's do work? And and night time will the DRL's shut off and Headlights turn on?

You have checked all the fuses (and circuit breaker), correct? Do the high beams work? Do the Parking Lights Work?

I'm sorry, but no one here is going to have "definite guess". We are only going to be able to point you in the right direction.

Here is a wiring Diagram to help you along your way...

My first initial gutt feeling is a bad multifunction switch (turn signal stock). GM's like to rout the headlight circuit through these, and years upon years of dirt and grime and smoke and turning makes bad connections over time. You can try working this switch and turning on your headlights (ie turn left turn signal on then headlights, right signal and headlights,....), wiggle it around, move it back and forth. If you can get the lights to come on doing this, the MFS is your problem.

Other possible cuases... Ignition Switch/Harness, Headlight switch, DRL Module.

Keep us posted on your findings!

I have the exact same electrical problem!

Did you ever find out what was wrong!

Since all the issues start when the headlights are turned on, I would say headlight switch, ignition switch, then M/F switch in that order. It could also be DRL related, but not as likely.
