95 Odyssey harsh shift normal?

My wife was having some mechanical problems with our 2001 Focus Wagon so working at a dealership I was able to purchase a 1995 Odyssey with 137k on it for about $900

I had a mechanic looked it over and I had to do a couple of things to it (replace plugs/wires/valve cover/and a section of exhaust pipe). I drive it home and the engine ran good, and transmission shifted when it should, but the shifting was a little harsh. If this normal for these models? I am sure that I can sell the thing for a profit, but I like the vehicle, just a little worried about the tranny. I dont want to be stuck with a tranny problematic van.
