clutch adjustment

just bought a 76 midget w/79 1500 engine..the clutch pedal is almost to the top of its throw...can't find cable to adjust.help!!!!!!

Sorry to say the clutch is Hydraulic. there is no adjustment. make sure you have a full master cylinder and that the slave cylinder is not leaking. another problem that these systems have is that the flexible line that goes to the slave cylinder breaks down over time ( either internal breakdown or the hose actually bulges from the pressure resulting in decreases pedal ). I have always used a stainless braided hose for this and have had no problem. If you do not want to spend that kiond of money is it a cheap item to replace with another neoprene hose.

I would agree with timcollard1 if when you say the clutch is at the top of its throw that means the clutch doesn't engage until the pedal is all the way out or up. If you were having hydraulic problems the clutch wouldn't be disengageing all the way or would be engageing as soon as the pedal started up off the floor. Also if the hydraulics were bad enough, the gears would grind with the pedal all the way down when you try to shift into first.

Hi, I used to own a "77 midget, proper bleeding of the hydrolics is crucial, also make sure you don't have any leaks, as I did once, and the result was the pedal travel to its limit and grinding gears, is there any fluid on the floor or running down the pedals? I would investigate all leak, pressure potential problems, to replace the clutch you need to pull the engine and tranny together!! Good luck
