88 Beretta dies at red lights

Help! My 1988 Beretta dies at red lights and stop signs - but not all the time. Sometimes I can drive a while and come to a stop just fine. Other times, the car shuts off HARD at a stop (with a little pre-dying convulsing). When this happens, I can put the car in neutral or park and start it just fine. As soon as I put it into drive or reverse, it slams off.

What is the issue? How do I fix this???

It sounds like your lock up torque converter isn't realeasing. unplug it at the front of the trnsmission and see if the problem goes away.

Is your check engine light on?

No check engine light. How do I get to the plug for the Torque Converter?

Is this transmission a 3-speed? It's on the side of the transmission towards the front of the car. It's not hard to get to.

Anyone have a picture or diagram of the TCC plug? Can't find one online and the one in the Haynes manual is useless.

It is a square 4 prong plug, I think it sits on top of your transaxle, right side (driver side). On our 91 3.1 it was found by removing the air box and you could easily see it. I do not have a diagram, sorry.

I finally found it. Thanks for the help, everyone. I'm thinking this is my problem - 3 of the 4 prongs were broken on the plug!
