Phil,
Did you ever get the engine overhauled during the 270K miles?

I bought both used. The transmission on the first one was replaced with a new one around 350,000kilos. The other one has never run so I don't know. Engine on first one runs like new! I still use it while my son uses my newer Montana.
So to answer your question, I don't know if there were any engine overhauls done on either.

Mine is a 3800 V6, '95. It's done aprox 100kmiles, or 160000 km. Now used as a second car for the wife. But still runs strong with low maintenance effort.
Full leather, electric sliding door, overhead console, new sensatrac shocks and the six seat setup make it my all-time favorit family mover. (Till now of course..

106,152 miles.
Not too bad for a 94.
Does need a new water pump soon.
Rust's not too bad yet.
Turned it on last week and brought it up to 5500rpm. Never been that high but ran fine. (NO! It was parked. I would never force that on her! Ever!)

Hi. I've got a '93 Transport that's been in my family since new. it's a 3800 with 367000 kms or 228K miles. It's been a daily driver since new and has never had any issues with the powertrain. The only parts replaced have been some accesory components like the alternator or starter, but that's it. I'm now starting to drive it to work 100km a day or 60 miles, so the mileage should really climb quickly. I'm hoping to get it to 400K before she retires. It still even looks really good. That plastic body really helps here in Canada.

@Moseby: I know exactly what you mean with the plastic body lasting the harsh north. I have also had mine in the family for the entire life of the van,and no major issues. I know you can get up to 400k easily in this van!:biggrin:

New addition to the pack:
White '91 Pontiac Trans Sport with 152.000 miles on a 3.1 TBI engine.
Runs like a charm (we bought it initially for parts and a measly 1300 Euro's then decided it's too good to part:). Now it runs better than the first (blue) '92 TS which still has "sitting" issues since it was a recreational vehicle. Plus I like the white color better on this machine.

I needed one for parts but after I got it running we realized it works better than the first (blue) one so we decided to keep the white one in service too.
Now I'm starting all over again looking for a "parts" Pontiac Trans Sport. If that works too I don't know what I will be doing with the whole pack (maybe start distributing them among my friends/family because a car that sits for too long has all kinds of issues after a while).
Anyway I love the simple/easy way these cars can be maintained/repaired and I'm very lucky to have found a mechanic here that really knows his way around american cars.

My 1992 Transport GT - 3.8 ( tuned port - wow!) in white has 200000km on the clock. 120000 miles, so still a baby.
No major issues but central locking can go off for a day or two, then return for months. S/Steel exhaust ( no cat) and bigger profile tyres than my last Transport ( a 3.1 SE, which was a bag of cow dung) so comfy ride. Will keep the van until it dies.:p

Mine is a 1996 3.4l SE with leather trim. It started life in Germany although it is a Canadian spec model with factory fitted tow-bar and self-levelling suspension, front and rear air-con, cruise control etc.
Since it started in Germany it has had head restraints fitted to all 5 rear seats, I suspect this is rather unusual. I think the original owner had all available extras except the power sliding door. It is bright aqua and still looks good despite 192,000 Km (about 120,000 miles), although looking at some responses it is only just run in!! I bought the TS in the UK in 2002 and am the second UK owner. I think there was only one German owner, but it is not easy to tell from the paperwork.
Can anyone confirm that the 3.4l engine is rare in the 1996 plastic TS?

For 1996, the 3.4 engine was the ONLY engine available for North American Trans Sports, the 3.1 and 3.8 were discontinued.

1994 3.8 with 144,120 miles all done in Sacramento CA. Has sitting issues right now and am working through them as they come up. Wife nearly totalled it right out of the showroom, then son left turned into oncoming traffic. Had to replace the trans at 78k. Dealer didn't tighten the alt post wire and caused an engine fire. Vandals broke into the passenger side and smashed the ignition. This car has been to hell and back, literally, and I keep fixing it. Its red and looks new except for a few clear coat problems. Gotta love those plastic panels. Of all our cars this has been the most expensive due to repair cost.

Thanks Jeffrv. There are very few Trans Sports in the UK. Those that are tend to be 3.1l although there was a 2.8l 4 cylinder version for European market.

- 1993 Trans Sport
- 3.8L what a fantastic motor, best motor I have ever owned!!
- 400,000 km / 250,000 mi
- tranny rebuilt 10 years ago
- 7 seater
- Red with black roof, and silver/grey molding (before the molding and badging matched the paint color)
- original extra long nose
- frame rust concerns (the jack crushed the frame when lifting; both sides now)
- the door mechanisms have been reverse engineered (jerry rigged; see my thread http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=1122145
- It recently laid down for a rest. The starter let us down but right in front of the house! If the mechanical evaluation proves good, my son might want to drive it. I will replace a good length of the rusted out frame member to again accommodate jacking, or just carry a small trolley jack to use under other jacking points.
- Other things that are beckoning are: heater core:crying:, thermostat, temp sending unit for gauge, front end parts, tires, plugs (aren't they fun:headshake? ... I tried pulling the carpet back and cutting an access hole in the floor to make easy access to those 3 very hard to reach rear bank plugs; I found no way to do it), exhaust starting to puff a bit, idler pulley bearing, battery, ignition switch doesn't like it when it is 40 below....don't forget BBRRRAAAKES!!... might as well throw shocks on the list too... et cetera. Use Pick Yer Part as much as possible to keep the cost down.
I still like driving it!...but logistics must be faced at a certain point...when is that...........:loser: :grinyes:..:grinno:..? I would like to see it hit 500,000 km, or miles if I can find the energy. That fiberglass body is bulletproof.
