Hi Guys,
First let me thank you guys for your posts you have saved me a lot of Time and money! Here is the problem. When driving the car in D(over drive) it seems as if the transmission is slipping.
This mostly happens when I am driving in the city. On the highway I have no issues what so ever with the transmission slipping. But if I drive the car in D(not overdrive) when driving in the city the car performs flawlessly. I checked the transmission fluid level and it was OK. No check engine light. I am thinking and hoping that it might be the vehicle speed sensor?

Secondly My aluminum rims that are on my taurus are pitted badly anything I can do to get them looking new again? Thanks for you time!
Warm Regards,
Joe

Can you describe why you think the transmission is slipping with a bit more detail? I've experienced a lot of people thinking their transmission is slipping only to find what they are "feeling" is a misfire.

As for the pitted wheels, if they actually are pitted, there's not much you can do other than clean the surface corrosion and re-clear to keep it from getting worse. However, if it's like corrosion underneath the clearcoat, you might be able to buff the area or scuff it to make it match the rest of the surface, then clear coat the area again to keep it from corroding. Either way though, you will probably want to have the tire removed to do this so that the clear coat doesn't have an "edge" which would reduce the chances for a long-term repair. You might not have to travel too far to find a professional wheel repair shop that could give you suggestions on your options.

I have a problem that when the tranny gets hot after a long time on the highway, if I then start city driving, I must shift it down out of overdrive and into drive. If I don't do that, then for each shift, first/second, second/third it will shift into overdrive for a moment until I give it more gas to force a shift into the correct gear. That extra shift may be what Joseph68 is calling slipping. I haven't done anything to fix mine, I just take it out of overdrive when I get off the highway. So any solution might help me also.

Hi Rod,
thanks for the reply. What makes me think it is a tranny problem is that when it happens the engine revs and the movement of the car stops and then if I let off the gas a bit it will catch and i would continue on. I hope that made sense

If you're actually seeing the tachometer indicate the engine speed is increasing then you're probably correct that it's a transmission issue. A misfire would cause a drop in engine speed.

You could have a situation where the output shaft speed sensor or intermediate shaft speed sensor, etc. is not reading accurately, as well as probably one of many other issues. Unfortunately you'll probably need to connect your car to a professional scan tool capable of monitoring the transmission system in datastream mode to properly diagnose the issue. I'm far from a transmission guy though, so maybe someone will chime in with a common cause for your symptoms.

Hi Rod,
I was afraid it was the transmission. By the way I cleaned my EGR valve today, cleaned my throttle body and cleaned the MAF for the first time! I learned how to do it via this forum! What a big difference it made!!!! I think I might and try replacing the PVC valve next.

Joe
