Which Post Do I Disconnect On My Battery

to cut the power to the inside of my car? as a result of my door not being able to close the lights on the inside have stayed on all nite and basically killed my battery...my car wont crank at all..after I get a jump I want to disconnect the battery so the lights wont continue to drain my battery.

you can disconect both or the positive

or you can dissconect the little button on the door it pushes in take the wires off from it

my fuseable links are connected to my positive..is it still safe to disconnect that too?

how do i do that? i tried to jam something in between the door and the button so the light would stay off but it didnt work..where are the wires located?

their should be a bolt if you can get the bolt off the switch then you could pull it out and see the wires or pull the fuse from the fuse box that is the easy way

It is always a good idea to disconnect the negative cable from the post, especially if you are going to be working on the car. Reason being is that even if you disconnect the positive, with the negative being still hooked up, you could still accidentally lay a tool somewhere on the engine(still grounded because ground is hooked up still at the battery) and the other end touch the positive post on the battery causing a short. Keeping a habit of taking the negative cable loose is always a good idea.

In the winter when it's cold and damp my inside lights don't come on when I open the drivers side door, when it's dry and warm they do come on.
I'm thinking it is the wiring. would it be something I could fix easily by taking that bolt off?

may be the contacks are bad you could get a new one at the auto parts store for cheap

yea i just spoke to my mechanic and he told me to disconnect the negative cable..and then take out the light bulbs so they wont use any more power until i get my door fixed

You could also pull the fuse for the int lights
