2001 grand prix 3.8 n/s
Just pulled a P0650 ODB II code/. They said it mean MIL light malfunction what is that and how much is the part. Car runs great. Also car still ticks. I traced it to a grey box under the driver side above the emergency brake It has two different groups of wires going into it. One is a black connector and one is a grey one. When you unplug either one of these the ticking stops. IT starts as soon as this box is plugged in what is the name of it? if you need a pic let me know.

Does the SES light illuminate and shut off when you turn your key on?
That code usually comes up when the SES light bulb has burnt out.
Still clicking huh? Could you get us a picture? It sounds like the wiring is messed up at the DIC. You may want to go back in there and have a look to make sure no wires are crossed.

I can open them. I dont know exaclty what that component is. Maybe the DRL module? (anyone know?)

The box in question is your BCM (Body Control Module). The ticking is most likely a bad relay for a system controlled it. BCM's have to be programmed to your specific VIN, so a used junk yard part is not an option if it is determined that the BCM itself is bad.

Okay how much does the BCM cost and where or how can i found out if it is bad. Also is my car safe to drive with the box unplugged unitl i get it fixxed.

Doesn't the DRL module have a heat sink on it or is that the interior light dimmer module that has it.

The DRL module has the heat sink. The interior courtesy light module is the BCM module.

I believe that is the DRL module then (GM#10433646) and they are expensive (dealer retail is $332.95). The picture shows it mounted right next to the BCM under the dash on the drivers kick panel right where you're showing. If it is indeed the DRL module, your car is safe to drive until you get it fixed.
It fits only 01-03 Pontiac Grand Prix models

WAAAAAA how much did you say:shakehead. Heck no i cant pay that i can barely afford to keep it gassed up. Does that have to be reprogrammed or can i get that part used and just plug and play. Please tell me that i can. Even if i cant lie to me. were should i get the part and dont say the dealer i cant even afford to cry. On the back of the part this is the only number i can find (10433646-0274 Made in Mexico) it has 2 different connectors both are 8 pin. if thats helps. Im serrious i cant pay 332.00 or anywere close to that. Can you sell a kidney on craigslist?

I wouldnt condemn the DRL module right off the bat.
When my g/f first bought her 2002 GP SE, she hated DRL's and automatic headlights.
Pulling the DRL fuse (even though disabled the DRL's) made a constant ticking sound (like yours) which came from under drivers side dash somewhere. When the fuse was put back in, the ticking went away. To disable the DRL's I had to unplug the big heatsinc inside the drivers door jam, and then place a diode in the ambiant light sensor plug.
I think you should check for B+ at the DRL fuse in the glove compartment first.
I will try and dig up a DRL wiring diagram for you so you can unplug each connector and check for proper power and grounds first.

A test light clamped to a good ground will allow you to check every fuse in your fuse compartment within a minute.
Stand by for a wiring diagram.

You will need a digital volt meter to measure voltages.

Ok, Chrissbee, in the glove compartment check the DRL fuse (10amp), DIC/HVAC fuse (10amp), and in the under hood fuse box check the Park LP fuse (20amp).
Click on the link below to download the Headlight/DRL wiring diagram for your car. Once it opens, you might have to right click on it and click save and open it from your computer so you can zoom in to read it. Also Im aware it is for a 2000 GTP, but the 2001 GT should be identical.
