Head gasket job

Ok well as you well know my HG blew out attempting to use nlts. I'm not saying the NLTS was the cause of the failure I'm just saying it happened when it was engaged.

The gasket looked pretty bad. There was supposed to be a cometic in there but when I got it off it looks like the guys who did my engine rebuild just put on some composite thing that blew out.

|The damage was done on the far front left side of the gasket near cylinder one (or the first passenger side cylinder)

The metal seal where the oil flows is clearly damaged and there was some warpage above that on the gasket.

So thats the bad

The good

Cams look great!

Cam gears No problem

Pistons no hot spots or metal shavings!

Block no cracks or deep scrapes etc

Thats where its at right now

Still nervous about this IM fitment.

Time will tell!

Looks like someone forgot to drain the coolant out of the block before pulling off the head haha. I've done that before... makes a hell of a mess. You probably already know this but, FYI, there is a very short hose on the driver side of the car in the front by the oil filter housing(I think) you can pull off. This will completely drain the entire coolant system.

Congrats on everything being in good shape. It sucks getting that composite stuff off of the block. I used a razor blade and did it by hand. After a few head gasket jobs I bought this rubber bristle attachment for an air drill. Works great but, you have to go slow. Still faster than a razor blade.

haha yeap my bad on the coolant. I had to fill it to test if there was a HG problem by shooting compressed air into the cylinder so needless to say there was a lot of mess.

That reminds me of when I changed the HG in the Thunderbird. Everything is looking good. Keep the pics coming when you install the SMIM

Attached my new 2.5 ID 90 degree coupler . It was a tad small so it was hard to get on but I made it work with some help !
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j294/steviekallday/headgasket052.jpg

Then I had to take it off again to cut off a half an inch to make it line up better with my uicp and also create new room for the battery

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j294/steviekallday/headgasket053.jpg

Clamped down hard that coupler isn't going anywhere
also note the room left for the small bat going in

Good job. I've had to do a few head jobs on cars. Sucks the first time, but not so bad after that. I was about to say you might as well go ahead and throw some cams in there while you got it apart, but then I looked at your mod list and realized that you already had them. Get it back up and running and pull us some 3 sec 0-60 runs.

Thanks the job is done now !!!

I don't have any new pics yet I will snap some.

My coil pack is mounted where the egr valve used to be. I gotta clean up some vac lines and hopefully the spark wires too but shes running strong ;)

Its a 2g JmF street version! polished w/ oem map sensor bung. From Extreme that would cost over 600 us plus shipping to canada. I got it for 400 cad new cause I'm a hustla haha
