Tranny problem with 2001 Escape??? O/D light flashing

I just bought a 2001 Escape V6 2WD and noticed the O/D light flickering. When at 80 mph my rpms are around 4,000 which just seems too high and when I clicked the O/D button nothing happened besides the light still flashing. Tranny fluid is good but the car sat for about 9 months, only being driving once every 2-3 weeks and Im worried about that being a problem. It seems like it lurches and just isnt shifting right...any advice is appreciated! Thanks!

Jeff If you OD light if flickering than your escape is throwing a code you need to get a scanner plugged in to see what that code is I do know an autozone or advanced auto will plug in and check codes for free. I would do this as soon as you can to avoid possibly damaging you escape further.
