98 Escort problem

My Escort runs fine most of the time, But! when it is hot, or the weather is hot, it is hard to start. It takes lots of cranks to get it going, but then it runs perfect. When the weather is cool, and hasn't been run for a while, it starts right up, no problem. I have changed the fuel filter, and the air filter. No difference. No engine lights, and no codes show up. Engine is 2.0. ZX2.

Sounds to me like your ignition coil.

You know I had that problem. I put 8.5 mm autolite ignition wires on and replaced the plugs with NGK Iridiums. Starts right up for me. I thought I was gonna wear out the starter I had to crank for so long. When it is hot there is a whole lot more resistance in the ignition circuit. Thats true for the plugs and wires and is true for the ignition coil. I'll bet if you put some new plugs and wires in it will fire right up for you. You were right in putting in a new fuel filter and air filter. Those are the first things to do when you have a hard start.
