2009 Corolla...Changing oil....

Just bought the 2009 Corolla LE and was surprised when I tried to change the oil. There's no 'conventional' oil filter.

I apparently needs a special oil filter cap wrench tool. What is the size of this tool?

....And where on the engine is this housing that cases the filter located?

Apparently oil changing shops do not change the oil in the '09 Corolla, which is a pain in the ass. I've been to the dealer twice now for oil changes and I'm tired already of paying $40 for an oil change.

Any thought?

Obviously my Haynes manual for my '04 Matrix isn't going to help, so I suggest you go to a Toyota dealer and in the showroom for new vehicles they may have a Corolla turned on its side on a stand so you can see the complete underside.

The dealer I bought my off-lease Matrix from had this display, engine and all. It certainly lets you know where everything is located.

Here is a procedure for an Avalon. See if this makes sense to you. I have no experience with a newer Toyota engine:

I believe the plastic thing on the end of the hose comes with the Toyota oil change kit (with the filter element).

Just bought an oil filter housing cap wrench from the toyota dealer that fits my 2009 Corolla. They must not have updated the packaging for the wrench yet because 2009 Corolla isn't listed. The package says "Fits the 64mm x 14 flute cap on the following models: Toyota (6) Avalon 05-08, Camry 07-08, Rav4 06-08, Sienna 07-08 3.5L, Tundra 07 5.7L"

Careful not to torque it more than 18 ft. lb when replacing cap or you could damage the housing.
