I replaced the 3.8l in my 88 and with the old and new engine im getting a knock sensor code.. I replaced the sensor and the pigtail with no luck.. Im thinking a problem in the pcm prom? What do you guys think? If so is there anywhere I can get one other then a pull a part or the dealer? Oh ya Im getting a 5% retard if I clear the code its 0% and the car has more power then after a short time the code comes back.

Not sure.. I got it used from everdrive. The first one they sent ended up with something wrong in the lower half so they sent me another. All three engines had the knock sensor code. Engines all looked the same. I know they where all VIN code "L" atleast..

The pcm and icm must be matched for the proper operation of the knock sensor programming strategy, check into this isssue first.

Its a Duralast part number. Not ACDelco.

I had the ICM tested to be sure it was working properly and it tested good. Im still at a loss here.

Oh and I noticed one other thing the spark advance gos from 15-16 to 5-6 when the check engine light comes back on.

testing the icm does not mean it is compatible with the pcm , check on the part numbers for the 2 different years.

Sorry I must of missed a post. I thought I posted the part number. Its DR158. How do you tell what the years are?

OEM Number: 10469470; 10475225; 10494012 I think that is it... 10475225 covers me I think?

Ok, you need to get the pcm number vs the icm number for the parts that are in the car now and see if they match.

New PROM fixed the problem. Thanks for the help.

Thought the issue had to be somewhere in that circuit/component combination , good work
