For those that are wondering if their computer may have been infected with the Conficker Worm set to make it's presence today, Microsoft has a download to see if it's on your computer and if it is, remove it. The link to the download with other info about it is here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=AD724AE0-E72D-4F54-9AB3-75B8EB148356&displaylang=en . I downloaded and ran the program on my computers as an extra added measure. Microsoft says it can take a few hours to run on an average computer. Mine were a little over 2 hours for the scan,( nothing malicious found  )

For the sys admins here: they found a way to fingerprint infected systems with a simple network scan

so head over to nmap download the latest version and use this command:

nmap –script=smb-check-vulns –script-args=safe=1 -p445 -d <ip rage here>

or use whatever scanner you prefer that has conficker fingerprinting

This one only takes about 5 minutes. It just looks for red flags, if it doesn't find any, then you're good. If it does find something then you have to do the complete scan above:

Gee wish I knew that before I ran it 2 of my computers so far. the second one only took about 1/2 an hour and I still have 2 more to check out . I think I'll run your's first:lol:. Thanks for that link!:runaround:

Well, it's had a little time to work. Anyone heard of the computer world coming to an end or an ePocalypse? They were making a big deal about it on the news.

Anyone notice a reduction in spam? It would have had more of an effect in the countries that produce a lot of spam..... the same ones that mainly use pirated versions of windows.

blech the news media will blow anything out of proportion, all it was supposed to do on April 1st or later was receive instructions.

Anyway so far this virus has no payload, its still in the spreading mode, when it gets the payload it'll probably be used to keylog and/or make infected systems into spam or DDOS machines.

Or before the early '90s,(to which I'm very accustomed to  having bought my first computer in 2002. Now I wonder how we lived all these years before that without them.

Funny you say that. In the 2 weeks prior to the media attention to this worm, my one account that rarely gets any spam started getting up to a couple of dozen new messages a day.(same with my wife's email account with the same provider.) Now since 4/1 passed it's down to the usual amount of 0 to 1 a day.
