Since your question is not directly related to the thread you posted on, I've moved your post to a new thread.
Welcome to the forum!
Will your car move forward if you shift to one of the lower gears and try to accelerate from a stop? Is the Check Engine light on or do you have an indication in the driver information center?
I had an issue at one point with my 2004 LS V8 where it didn't immediately go in to drive. The car had driven fine the day prior, it sat outside in a hotel parking lot overnight. The next morning I backed out of the parking spot, shifted to drive and the car didn't go. I eased into the throttle, then engine speed increased, then it slammed into drive (causing my wife to spill her coffee). It made it the 150 miles home fine, but I got it in the dealer before taking it elsewhere. They replaced the shift solenoid pack under warranty and I didn't have any further issues.
So, based on that experience, I'd suspect the shift solenoid pack on your car. There is a TSB that may apply to your car if the additive was never added to your transmission fluid. Unfortunately, once the solenoids begin to stick, the additive won't fix it. And since your car is out of warranty, you'll probably need to pay for the repair. I'm not sure how expensive that would be.

Just changed the Trans fluid (Mercon) in our 02 V8. Is there an additive I should have used?

I suppose that will depend a bit on if you picked up fluid by application from you dealer or if you went for aftermarket fluid from the local parts house. The TSB did state that adding a second bottle of additive to fluid that already had additive would not cause harm, so the safest route would probably be to get some additive and have it added.

I'm sure it was not fluid from a Ford dealer. (Valvoline I believe) Do I just ask for "Lincoln LS Transmission additive" at the parts counter? Thanks.

If you're at a Ford parts counter, that would probably get you the right stuff. The recall info doesn't suggest that you can buy a single bottle, but does give the part number for a 2-pack. Only one 6-oz bottle is required per vehicle. The Ford part number for the 2-pack is 4L2Z-19B546-AB. The Motorcraft part number is XL-11 which might be available individually. I'd suggest you indicate you only need one bottle either way. A note suggests you're not supposed to let it get cold and you should shake it well prior to adding it.
