97 GTP supercharger oil contamination

I was getting a whining noise from the supercharger area, so I decided to have a look at the oil level. Upon removing the plug, I was shocked to see a yellow/orange/brown sludgy oil that had a particularily foul odor. It almost seems as though, there maybe some coolant contamination, although I do not know if this is possible, I have never had one of these apart and would not know if there ius a gasket separating the two fluids. I can say that about one month ago I did fill the Supercharger oil (seemed to be missing quite a bit) and yes I did use the right oil. - Ac delco supercharger oil, provided by the dealer.
Anyone out there ever encounterd this? The supercharger still works and I am getting boost, but I have a feeling it is only a matter of time until doomsday. I have parked the car to prevent further damage. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, including where I may buy a refurbed unit at low $$,
Thanks

Welcome to AF.
Old supercharger oil smells bad anyways so hard to tell and looks bad if it has been in there a long time. When was the last time the SC oil was totally drained out and re-supplied?

When I bought the car (used) the SC had just been replaced. that would have been about 40,000 kilometers ago. It really does not have the consistency and color I expected. I should also add that i do seem to be losing coolant although that could be unrelated. Weird thing is, other than that the car runs great.

Normally it is black when old but clear when new. Have you pinpointed the whining noise? Is it at the snout or main SC body. Snout bearings failing at higher mileage is common. Also, check the snout seal and see if there is any leaking there.

There does not appear to be any leakage and the "oil" (or whatever it is) was right to the top of the plug. Tomorrow I will take my mechanics stethoscope and try to pinpoint the noise. In the mean time, can you tell me if there is any way the coolant could have entered the SC oil resevoir?

Coolant flows through the supercharger, but its all the way over towards the throttle body. I dont think there is a way for coolant to make its way into the SC oil.

Thanks for your replies. I will take a photo of the oil/sludge tomorrow, perhaps itmay shed some light....
