Painting a wavy checkered flag

I'm trying to push my painting skills farther and get into some classic designs and custom work.
I'd like to learn how to paint a wavy checkered flag and i'm having a problem finding information or tutorials on creating one.
Does anybody know how to do this or might be able to point me in the right direction for finding some information?

Hehe - you and me both!
I'd also be very interested to hear anything about this.
The nearest I came was in a WIP for a 1/1 speed boat :o

Never done one but if I wanted to do one I'd start by getting an image or google it. Print it out twice and cut two masks from the image, one for each color. Then mask and paint carefully. Or use the image as a guide if you can't find exactly what you're looking for.

I had planned one on an rc body but never got around to doing it (the body is still waiting...) You need to put down the base colors first white then black (black goes over white a lot better than white goes over black). I would use flat colors and an airbrush to keep the paint as thin as possible and still have coverage. Then, you'll want to do shadows and highlights both on the flag and, if you want, on the body where the flag is to be draped over. This will entail masking the fold and flag edges to define them and shading/highlighting as the light would normally hit it. When all is said and done and the paint dry, you'll want to hit it with a few clear coats, enough to bury any paint edges but not enought to bury the detail on the rest of the car. You should then be able to polish the paint (or not) to your satisfaction.

All GREAT ideas, and I'm definetely going to try some out! I think, like with everything, through practice and trial and error, I may be able to acheive this effect, I really appreciate the feedback!
