Quiteting Engine Noise

I've recently installed sound deadening material on the interior. I want some tips of quieting my engine noise. It makes too loud of a sound on idle and also the hood gets very hot recently. The engine temp is fine and the can runs well, it just idles too loudly. Will a tune up help? Are other things I can do to quiet the engine noise? I plan to install a sound deadening kit under the hood.

What engine, year and model, mileage?

Describe the loud engine noise at idle, ticking kocking sounds?????

Usually if someone complains about engine to noisey it means that there is engine problems except for exhaust.

Is the insulation still on the underside of hood????

Base engine on a '98 Vogager, 92k miles. There's no knocking, but some ticking when it first starts, I was told that a tensioner needs to be tightened. When the car warms up that ticking usually goes away. The noise I am talking about is just the normal engine sound, it's louder than it used to be so I am thinking a tuneup is in order. There is no insulation on the underside of the hood. I want going to get a hood kit for that.

I should also mention that the engine vibrates much more than it used to. The rattling is much more pronounced that it should be, what can be the cause of that?

How healthy do your motor/transmission mounts look?

Do you see any severe cracking or separation or looks like any of them are bottomed out instead of being suspended more in the middle...?

My motor mounts are rusted. They've been that way for a few years now. There is a partial separation in the right side one.

I've seen replacing the motor mounts on vehicles do wonders to vibration problems originating from the engine/trans area...

Many times we couldn't tell because of bad visibility etc, but once we replaced them - noticed an immense change in vibration felt through steering wheel, dash etc...

Hope this helps

I was told that is very expensive? I am assuming this can't be done by myself. How much would it cost?

I looked up mounts locally for a 98 voager 3.0 L, if you have a different engine - let me know

All the mounts for this engine were between 25-60 dollars each.

Labor time for all also shows less than 1 hour for each - so you should have no problem doing them yourself if you have a jack and piece of would and possibly jack stands if you have to go under it to get to some of the bolts. But shouldn't cost you more than a day's time and $150 to replace all of them...
