flashing red light

I have a renault clio 1.6 auto year 2000, my key got stuck in the ignition i managed to get it out but now a red light keeps flashing on the dashboard and the engine wont start, however the key does still locks the doors (centrol locking system)
and it just so happens that now i cant find my handbook when i need it typical, can anyone help please

That means the chip from the keycase is broken. That's why your engine doesn't start. On the other hand, there is no reason to do not start your engine... else if the ignition coil and the fuse are O.K.

that sounds about right,:shakehead the casing did come away from the key when the key got stuck in the ignition.
