Hey I am a new user so I hope that I get a response but here it goes. I have a 97 Blazer s10. I wired in a new stereo amp and subs. After about a week of using them the amp negative melted off so I reattached it. I knew I should have just thrown it away but I have had it for 3 years and loved it in my car. Anyway the stereo started staying on when the car was off so I took the stereo out and put in another one and that seemed to work. then the tail lights went out and then the brake lights went out. So I took out all of the stereo equipment and they came back on. So i put the original stereo back in and they went back off and even after taking the stereo back out they still won't come back on. Any help would be appreciated. I thought about the fuse but the fuse is fine. I also thought it might be the alternator with all that power coming off of it and will be getting it check today.

Welcome to AF.
On the fuse and all fuses check for 12 volts on both sides of them.
Go back all of the wire you done or undone on it.
And remember 97 is a bad year on ign switches.

check the 4way switch, the red button has 3 spring loaded pads that make 9 contacts and has a tendency to hang up

Yea I ended up having to pull apart the dash and using a test light figure out that there was a break in the line. I don't know how it happened but there was. It took me all day to find the right wires running from the fuse box. I still don't have any reverse lights. Someone was telling me something about a relay on the transmission.

Good find and thanks for posting back how it went.
The transmission does not have a relay but will have a neutral saftey switch that turns on backup lights in reverse.
Get a good wiring diagram and trace down wiring and ircuits.
Like found in a Factory repair manual or all data online sub.
