What does " misfuelled " mean ? Did you put the wrong type of fuel in your vehicle or ..... what ? A little more info would help ! As for making sure you and your wife don't do it again , well if the cost of the repair doesn't remind you to not do it again , I don't know what to tell you ! Just my $ 0.02 !

I put petrol in my diesel van by mistake. You would be suprised at the amount of people who do it each year!

Hopefully you changed it before it did any damage. :naughty:
If it were the other way around and you put diesel fuel in a gas car you would immediately notice the smoke cloud coming out of the tail pipe.

I don't know how to stop you from doing it again, but if it does happen again I would just take loose the gas line under the hood and run it into a hose going down into a gas container and let the gas run out that way by turning the key on. You should have to keep turning the key on and off I believe for this to work.
There would still wind up being some left in the very bottom of the tank, I would after doing that add about a gallon of diesel and give it time to mix well, then pump it out again.
After that then I would fill it up completely with diesel and hopefully by then if there is still some in there it would be diluted enough not to hurt anything.
Not saying that's the right way to do it but that's what I would try.

Actually I know how to stop you from doing it again now that I think about it. Take something to make a label and put it on your gas cap as a reminder each time you take a cap off.

I put diesel in my Subaru once, but it wasn't my fault, the station accidently put the wrong fuel in the underground tank. Needless to say, it ran really bad, I barely got home with it and I only drove it about 1 mile. Took a while to figure out what happened. I couldn't run the car the next day and had heard through the grapevine that this had happened. I called and the station confirmed it.
They took care of me right away. Had it hauled to a dealership and removed the diesel and fuel filter and flushed it out, refilled my car with gasoline.Dropped it right back into the driveway the next day.
I guess they're regular driver was out and his uncle,(it's a family business), did the filling that day and got the fuels mixed up. I'm told that one guy lost an engine, but I can't confirm it.
Actually I did grab the wrong filler handle a couple of weeks ago, but it wouldn't fit into the hole, so I looked at the pump and I had grabbed the diesel one by mistake. So I guess it can happen.

I put gas in my diesel escort one time. It cost me so much to fix it I never did it again. I paid lots more attention after that. Only thing you can do is allways take your time and check everything.
