Inner Tie Rods

Has anyone replaced the inner tie rods on the classic. Is it possible to do without removing the steering rack? If I remove the rack should I just replace it. I've got about 200k on the clock.
Both inner tie rods would be about $75. A new rack is $350 which includes the tie rods. I have been noticing that my steering is some what more difficult while maneuvering during parking. But nothing horrible.
