Replacing Condenser Fan

I need to replace my a/c condenser fan and was wondering if I could do it myself. I read that you have to discharge the a/c system. I do not have a means to do this but can this step be bypassed?

Oh I forgot to add it is a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7L V8.

if you cut the shroud a little it goes around the line and you don't need to discharge anything
