95 Olds Cutlass Overheating

I have a 95 Olds Cutlass Supreme 3100 V6 (Automatic) and it's been overheating after about 40 minutes of driving (through the city or highways). I've been having this problem for about a month now and need to some suggestions. Here's what I've done. About 8 months ago I was getting this problem and I changed the thermostat (which did work). But now after getting into these warm temperatures, it's been trying to overheat. Now I noticed the smell of coolant (syrup smell) and i noticed that one of the hoses was leaking (the short one that's towards the top front end of the motor), so I thought that was the problem. But, that didn't fix the problem. I also noticed that only one of the cooling fans is coming on, but the other one isn't (on the passenger side) - I did as it said in the manual and I connected wires from the battery to the fan, and it DID turn on, but I don't think it turns on at all (anyone know any other sources to this problem?) Well today, I come across seeing that the drivebelt tensioner pully was REALLy worn out. It was sticking out on the one end and the pully part was really close the timing belt cover almost touching. Hopefully this is it (and I'll post it tomorrow), but if not, let me hear some other suggestions.

you can use the bleeders (2) to make sure its not an air pocket.1 on thermostat 1 above water pump.good luck

When you open the bleeders, jack up the front end of the car, these engines are HORRIBLE about bleeding properly. That should help move a lot of the air to the front. Don't have it running with those bleeders open and don't over tighten because you'll break the bleeder off lol.
