My 00 gp has been making a weird whining sound that gets louder when I turn the wheel and accelerate. I'm including a link to youtube where I've recorded the noise. It makes the noise in all gears, including neutral.
If anyone could help me figure out what this is that would be great.

Here's a link to the clip.

It sounds like a power steering pump to me. How is the fluid level?

It sounds like a power steering pump to me. How is the fluid level? That's what I was thinking. How do you check the levels? Thanks

With engine hot or cold just remove the cap at the power steering pump. There will be cold and hot markers on the little dipstick. The P.S. pump is located towards the passenger side firewall area below the alternator if this is a 3800 engine. Note: Be careful if the engine is hot. Best to let it cool down some. Check with engine off.

BTW - Just disregard post #3. Another member posted in this thread but the wrong forum.

Hey man, thats a power steering noise. I have the same issue. It seems to get louder when the car is warm. Mine all started after I replaced the PS lines. I think one of my connections to the R&P might be loose allowing air to enter. I think I'll jack it up and check it out today before work

BTW, nice color!

Thanks for the responses guys. Ok so I just checked under my hood and for the life of me i couldn't find the pump. I have a 3800 Series II and I was looking below the alternator but I couldn't find it. I was probably looking at it the whole time and just didn't notice. Does anybody have a picture or something or can anybody tell me what the cap looks like? Thanks

Below the alternator you will see the tensioner assembly with the two heater hoses. Look under the two hoses where they connect to the tensioner assembly and you will see the cap. Use a good lighting source like an 8 LED flashlight.

Sweet thanks Bnaylor. I just found it, took it off, wiped it off, put it back then took it out and there was just a drop on the bottom of it where it said ADD. The engine was cool btw, I hadn't driven it in 24 hours, so the fluid wasn't expanded or anything. So not do I just have to add more fluid? And if so how do I know how much to add? Thanks again i really appriciate it

Just add in small amounts until you get well above add but below the hot mark. I use a small funnel with a long hose attached to add fluid to the reservoir.
