96 Contour, V-6 . Looking for the possible solution to why the door is stuck in defrost (default position?) no matter where you moved selector knob. Turns on and off fine.

Thanks

Welcome to Automotive forums.
Most likely the vacuum motor has gone out perhaps a hole in the diaphragm or the line itself has slipped off the vacuum source, check the intake plenum.

Look under the dashboard, on the driver's side, close to the console. There is a vacuum pot there with a vacuum hose on one end and linkage on the other. That linkage has become detached from the vacuum pot. You can temporarily shift this pot manually with your finger by pushing the lever down towards the vacuum pot. If you can reconnect the plastic clip to the linkage lever that would be good but the one on our '98 Contour doesn't stay connected very long.

I hope this helps you.

Thanks for that and I did find the problem and it was something simple and I don't remember what , and it may have been what you said and it is fixed now. Wonder if it could have been a fuse or did I just push something and fixed it?
