At the Honda dealer they had a 98 and a 99 dx civic... stickshift... the dx's are slow as hell huh? i've never driven an import before, i used to have a 2000 mustang gt...
i like the older body style 92-00 civics better than the new ones. but i also want it to be able to move out of its own way!
i'd like to get a dohc vtec engine, but not likely going to find one at the dealer huh? the ex's had a sohc vtec right?
give your input!

also found a '96 integra gsr for a little over $8000.

Go GSR,

Yes EX's are only a single overhead cam but even at that they will still be dissapointing to drive. I hope you are not comparing these cars to your old Mustang in terms of factory performance. The only DOHC's are the Si's. But if at all possible..avoid the DX.

Oh, heck no. I don't expect my new import to be anything nearly as fast as my mustang. it was a late 13's car, i'm just looking for something that has potential to be a 15 sec. car without too much modification, 14s would be nice...but not likely.

depends on your taste
if i had that i would drop it into a MkIII Supra Turbo
you said that Civic was 8k the Supra would most likely be around 4 then use the remaining 4 for lots of goodies for the motor

does the 96-00 ex vtec have any potential to move out of it's own way? i'm not looking for a drag car by any means, but i want to get to maybe 150 hp without major mods, how likely is that?
and how slow is this dx? is it just a piece of crap all around?

What kind of car are you looking for, besides 15 sec performance?

Should have kept the GT. If your looking for something cheaper get a V6 mustang, it would still be faster then the civic options you listed.

I still have the GT but it's most likely to be traded in tomorrow for my parents car they're getting. just to be rid of it!
the payments and the hassle of replacing the motor will be gone.
i found some 99-00 Si's for 10-12k! not baaad! they're 160 hp? what kind of times do they run stock?

Replacing the motor? What do you mean? How old are you? Because if you're under 25 or whatever the age is, the insurance should be hurting you more than the car payments. And stock SI's run mid-high 15's. They look pretty damn sweet too!

a dohc vtec si can run aroudn a 15.5-15.6 fromt he factory, they have 160hp and weights 2500lb and change. the only problem is, they have extremely tall 1st and 2nd gears, and on a torqueless engine like that, it really hurts 0-60 times. now that GS-R you were talkin about, that car has 170hp and is alittle heavier. they can run a 15.4 on the 1/4 mile. now if you want a nice car, with good power, you can get a used 5 speed nissan maxima. any year from 95-98. they run 0-60 in 6.8 seconds, and run the quarter mile in like 14.9 or somethign very close to that stock not bad for a family car huh? plus you want to mode it, its got a 3.0 that excepts mods very well becsaue nissan restricts their cars from the factory like crazy. so 30hp at the wheel gains is very possible from just basic bolt ons. nissan all the way baby. like look at my car, it suppose to run the 1/4 in 16.1 when its new. i saw test for my after only 40K miles that it turned out runnign 17's. with all the mods that i listed below on a 69K mile motor, i ran a best of 15.5 and on average 15.7 not bad for just bolts ons huh?

So, how did you tear up the motor in your parents mustang?

Get a Subaru... AWD, larger engine, nicer styling IMO... Excellent potential for modifications, and AWD handling beats FWD handling any day of the week.

For the price range you are talking about though i would still go GSR. That's not a bad deal on a 99-00 Si though. I Turbo'd my bro's Si for his b-day and we are getting some times that are deep in the thirteens with very little money. It's very possible to knock that EX down into the 15's though. The GSR also can take some nice mods and be dropped pretty simply into the 14's and maybe 13's with little effort.

Yeah a friend of my has a Honda civic ex they are very disappointing cause they only have 127 hp. If I were you I would get a gsr, or better yet if you don't my fixing a little bit of a body on a toyota supra I could see if I could get you one for around 8000 twin turboed at that. But between the gsr and the si I would stick with the gsr for speed. But you said you weren't looking to much for speed so go for the Honda civic. More modifications for the body. I would take the gsr though definitely.
