I've noticed some of the replacement tanks are rated at less capacity. A few years back we replaced a fuel tank on an early '80s caprice V8 ( OEM was 25 gallons,) but the replacements ranged from 22 to 24 gallons. The station wagon, I believe for that year is a 22 gallon tank. I guess it depends on the manufacturer.

I would call around and even check online. I have found some of the online businesses that sell tanks can be less expensive and some even offer free shipping. There are probably multiple businesses in your area that also sell tanks and one might be cheaper in price. Check your phone book or online version of the yellow pages for your area.
A few years ago i needed a gas tank for one of my vehicles and the price differential was close to $50 between businesses. It pays to comparison shop and not go with the first place you contact.
