I have a 95 caprice classic with a 350 5.7. Is this a lt1? also has a belt driven fan. What was the reason for this?

Yes, the 5.7 is the LT1. The LT1 uses reverse cooling (meaning cylinder heads get cooled first), sequential port injection, and a front-mounted distributor (mounted between the block and water pump, which is camshaft driven on the LT1). These improvements (namely the reverse cooling) allowed GM to bump the compression up over 10:1 while still being able to run on regular pump gas. This, along with the sequential port injection, allows the engine to produce more power over a wider range of RPM, all the while enjoying increased fuel economy.
The Caprice got the LT1 because it's a heavy car, and the LT1 produces healthy torque over a relatively large portion of the engines' RPM capability.

the LT1 has no belt driven fan on most .the water pump is rotated by the camshaft ...
show us what this engine looks like...
the forum here has LT1 pictures does it look like these ..?
I just checked this out on the fan...it appears that some vehicles came with the heavy duty cooling and this then has a fan driven by a belt...

B bodies generally from 1994 to 1996 came with either a mechanical or electric fan. If the vehicle has a mechanical fan then the vehicle usually has a factory towing package.

All the mechanical fan is really good for is sapping power and making noise. VERY common for folks to rip it out and put a second electric fan in it's place.

The LT1 was put in Buick Roadmasters too, same body style.I know someone that has a Buick Roamaster with a LT1 under the hood.Plus it is a popular engine to put under the hoods of street rods since it is set up already,350 CID 350 HP

I have one in my '95 Roadmaster with electric fans. That is why I stated in my above post that they were put in GM "B" body cars (RM included.) An acquaintance has a '96 but his has the mechanical fans.

LT1 was the only engine offered in the 94-6 Roadmaster(sedan and wagon), Fleetwood, Caprice Wagon, and Impala SS. There was a 4.3L V8 version of it called the L99 that was the base engine in the Caprice sedan both 9C1(police) and civilian and both of those were available with the LT1 option.
In case some of you did not know L99 and LT1 are the engine option codes from the SPID label, that is how the engines are "named".
