Fuel Pump or Relay ??

Hello,

I own a 1986 s-15 jimmy 4wd w/2.8 and tbi. I am having problems with what I believe is the fuel delivery system. If I spray carb/throttle cleaner into the intake it will continue to run, if not it will shut down. I have replaced the fuel filter inline behind the power steering pump. While it runs while I spray the injectors are spraying fuel and seem to be working properly. My only guess at this point is the in tank fuel pump which I really am hoping isn't the problem. Any other ideas ??

Thanks

get a Haynes manual for your vehicle, find the location of your relay, the relay will have a control side set of wires and a power side set of wires, the control side is the one that engages the coil in the relay. The relays contacts close when there is power to the control circuit, which then closes the loop in the power circuit.

After you discover where the relay is, look in the diagrams section of your manual, and you will be able to find the fuel pump relay, which color wires are going to it and where they are coming from.

One side of the power circuit going to the relay should have 12 volts on it all of the time, the other side should have power after the key is in the on position, then sending the 12 volts to your fuel pump.
