clicking noise

i have a clicking noise when i put my '94 chevy lumina into drive.it will budge very lightly and i can feel the front end pulling but nothing will move i can put the car into reverse and drive but not forward so can someone please help me,

I think your tranny is done.

Sounds like a forward clutchpack or input sprag is shot.

i know my tranny isnt shot because i put it into drive today and it went but as soon as i got past 2nd gear the fron drivers side tiere locks up it might be the trans axle or the axle or a bering there is alot that could be wrong with it but im really not sure

That's weird. You're right, sounds like the problem could be in the diff, not the tranny portion.

Since I'm not there and can't see what's happening, are you certain it's a driveline problem? No way it could be a brake caliper with a broken support cocking and wedging or something?

ok try this. One day I was letting a friend drive my car and he put in gear and it took more gas to get it to move than normal and I heard it dragging something it was the tire caliper seemed frozen. So we limped it back and parked it. He left and I went out and tried it myself. It did the same thing for me put I pushed hard and suddenly o the brake pedal and like a firm pump of the brake pedal and something went crack and the car rolled backward by it self. drove just fine. I think it was a frozen caliper.

That's what I was wondering.

A caliper bushing that gets dislocated can cause the caliper to cock diagonally and make the pads bite and get stuck with unbelievable force (same as the self energizing primary shoe leading edge on drum brakes), but not at all in the opposite rotation direction sometimes.

It seemed like a possibility.

Does it sound like the final drive gear?

The problem was the top bolt that holds the caliper on came out. As she drove forward the caliper was pushed off and bound on the rotor and rim. In reverse it would go back into position and not bind. Luckily the bolt that came out lodged in the control arm and was still there. I bolted the caliper into position and it worked fine. The car is at my shop now waiting to be really looked at. She had the ball joint on that side replaced by someone that was going to auto school I guess. My guess is he didn't tighten the bolt all the way or put the caliper on a little out of place if that's possible.

It's my daughter's car and my son was over there looking at it and asking the questions. I couldn't get out until today to look at it but I was hoping for a heads up on where to look and I did get one.
