Hi
I have a 96 lx.
This might be a stupid question, but I’m wondering what are the advantages and disadvantages of driving with the shifter on D gear right above the L gear instead of the (D) gear.
Would it take more gas, bad for transmission?..anything
Thanks

If you are in city traffic, stop and go, it won't hurt anything but if you are doing a lot of highway driving your mileage will suffer. The (D) is overdrive while D disables the overdrive and causes the engine to work harder.

Driving with the lever in the non-overdrive D will save a lot of shifting from 3 to 4 and back -- when you are in urban driving. I never use the over-drive unless I will be on a highway going over 55 or so. I got tired of the up-down-up-down shifting, even before I had to rebuild the engine and tranny, after the tranny wore out at 192,000 miles.

We would have known yours was automatic - from your mention of the D and the L on the console. The 5 speed cars just have a rubber boot surrounding the shifter lever, and a 1,2,3,4,5,r stamped on the top of the knob, showing the shift pattern.
