Our family is looking to buy a Pontiac Montana. We (read "my wife") would like the capability to have 8 passenger seating, with the option to remove a seat in the second row to have easy access to the 3rd row. For those with this configuration, can you remove the middle seat in the 2nd row (if it has the 3 seat sectional)? Thanks

Yes, you can. You need to get the middle row that is 3 buckets. They are all individually removeable. Just so you know, it will be hard to find the van you want that also has the 3 middle seats. I would suggest you get the van you like and purchase a used set of 2nd row seats. That's what I did, bought a beautiful van and then went out and bought the seats. The seats cost me $150 from a salvage yard in excellent condition.

I haven't looked at my '06 Uplander's(sister to the Montana) floor configuration but I think they are all set up from the factory for 8 passengers. It's just a matter of taking out the center row and looking at the slots in the floor.I also have heard (but not confirmed) that the center row seats from any 1997 up U body van(Venture, Silhouette, SV6, Uplander, Relay, Terrazza, Montana) are interchangeable. If that is the case, then that opens up more options for your van if you choose.

Just to add to this, we have an 8 passenger, EWB van. The rear row is actually two pieces and you would be hard pressed to squeeze three adults in the rear row for an extended ride. The two rear seats can be removed as needed.
The middle row is three separate seats, but not captain's chairs with arm rests. Each seat is clearly marked for position. One of them is also marked as center and right, or center and left, can't remember...my wife just drove off with the van so I can't check.

I appreciate the replies...purchased one with 3 middle seats, and after some work, we were able to remove the middle seat
