weird speedometer problem

ok ive seen the post about problems with the speedometer and instrument gauges not working because of wiring harness but i think i have a diffrent problem here. i havea 98 neon sohc auto when i first drive it each day the speedometer wont work during this the car runs fine after about 5 miles the speedometer slowly begins to kickin or warm up i guess when it does this the car will jerk in and out as the speedometer kicks in and out? after the speedometer is functioning properly this goes away. i know i need a tranny flush but is this more speed sensor like symptoms. i rem the guy i bought it from saying he had the speedometer stop working when he owned it.

i had a 96 sohc that did the same thing except it got so bad that at times the car would practically jump shake rattle and roll down the road. turned out that tranny fluid was getting in the speed sensor plug connector and sometimes got into the oil sensor connector. cleaned them out really good with q tips and some engine degreaser let it dry overnight then reconnected them covered them in silicone really well and never had a problem again. although i dont believe ive seen anyones neon that has had this same problem :/

that actually sounds like a pretty accurate description i suppose the fluid gets in there and because of all the lube it wont function until it drys from heat of warming it

if your having problems with oil in the connectors of cam , crank, or oil psi sending unit its time to replace them ( yes even if there still working). the reason why is that the plastic that these are made of is porus and will over time ( years) starl to absorb oil. once this happens it will find its way into the wiring harness ( one of the reasons that neons need wiring harness repairs due to insulation failures and internal shorts) and ultimatly find its way into the computer . as far as the speedo goes have u reflowed the soder joint inside the instument cluster.........neons are notorious for having these break.
