04 Mountaineer won't downshift

2004 Mountaineer 74,000 miles w V6 5 speed auto normally shifts okay. But when I brake hard, then accelerate, it's like it's in neutral, then it grabs and lurches forward hard. Is this the solenoid or some other transmission related part?
