Hello all
Im here once again to ask for your help.
I am trying to duplicate the darkened bronze color of the wheel pictured below for a couple of projects that i have going on. I tried going to my LHS for a similar color but had no luck. So Im going to have to make it myself. My question is to someone that may have done this before and might tell me the best way. I thought of two possible ways however I was not sure if it would work to my liking. One: I could buy some regular bronze paint and mix it with some black prior to me spraying it on, or two: I could spray the bronze and once that had properly dried spay some transparent smoke over that.
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

The Testors Model Master Lacquer System includes a Dark Bronze Metallic that comes in a spray can and looks a lot like your photo. Everybody complains about Testors quality, but I've gotten good results from their spray-can lacquers.
Or try the Model Master metalizers. Brass tinted with Burnt Metal might get you pretty close, but it won't have the warmth of the bronze in the photo.
I would definitely avoid mixing paints of different types, including metallics and flats.

Another way that might work is to spray the wheel gloss black and use highly thinned Alclad colours over the top, building up the colour slowly, but allowing the black to show through. Once dry clear coat the whole wheel for a deep shine. Just wondering which Alclads would make a nice bronze finish...?????
