They are a 6mm x 1.00 thread. I picked mine up at the hardware store. I think they are about 3" - 3 1/2" inches long. Pick up several sizes of washers to up size the head of the bolt to the puller. I use my steering wheel puller and it works just fine.

I bought a new HB from Autozone and they loaned me the tool, was quite a trick to get it off.

Be sure and replace the Crank Sensor as well. Since youll have the balancer out its right there.

Absolutely....no need to go there twice!
IF the harmonic balancer was indeed shot, can you take a picture of the damage to document that issue?

I think I'm having the same problem with my regal, it's a 3800 engine, I didn't have a flashlight to look inside the slots so didn't realize that there are threads back in there, what puller did you use exactly. I started working on a nissan about the same time as my buick, the buick just needs the oil pump kit which I have and the nissan needed a motor which I've already put in.

WHen I did mine 3 years ago, I had bought that kit

..with a full array of bolts..but the bolts I needed, as described above, were not part of the kit. Eventually, I found some and got the balancer out. It is not taper, just tight, and you have to be totally convinced that the center balancer bolt is a normal thread, so it unbolts in the normal direction. It is so hard one might think he is trying the wrong way....

Thanks for showing me a pic so I will know what to look for, I think since I've done so much already to the nissan sentra I'm going to finish it first before I get started on the buick. Had the nissan sitting for 3 years b/c it needed a motor, then the oil pump went out on the buick and i was having to try to get myself and wife back in forth to work with one vehicle which is my truck which i'm running on 3 bald tires and a spare. I got so frustrated with the buick is why I decided to go ahead and put the motor in the nissan instead. Got it the motor in, tryed to crank it, didn't crank, checked for spark, good, wasn't getting any gas, so I used starter fluid to crank it and it sounded good. Wound up checking a few things, fuel pump fuse and relay, then took the back seat out and checked power to the fuel pump. I had to replace it. I guess that can happen to them after they sit for awhile.

All I got left is putting on the alternator, the a/c compressor, radiator, and fans, exhaust, and putting the passenger side axle and wheel back together. But unfortunately it's supposed to be raining here all weekend. I need a carport or a garage.
